My name is Ekta and I was born and raised in UK. My Dad was born in India and my Mum was born in Kenya. Both moved to England and now still live there. I did a degree in Psychology at the University of Birmingham. I was really lucky to spend all my summers at an independent camp in the USA where I met kids from different Social Economic Classes. You could call it Hogwarts as we had our own ‘tribe’ that was decided by a bucket! Since being 9 grand in debt, I have worked for Non-Profit Organisations in Kenya and Malaysia. I was also a primary school teacher in England. Many people have their doubts working abroad but If you put the time and effort and be part of the local community it goes a long way. I had a boy that came up to me and said it’s really nice to see someone that comes from where you are to meet and help people like me. I also went to see the Refugee Camp in Calais. It was so inspiring to see how hard people worked whilst maintaining a positive energy amongst all. All of these experiences have now bought me to Halle, where I hope to learn about the European Culture (especially as that's going to change as we've left the EU) and be part of the diverse community here.
