Mousikou, Rena

My name is Rena Mousikou and I am half German and half Cypriot. I grew up in Cyprus and have been visiting Germany  since I was little to visit my mother’s family in Allgäu (Bavaria) .I have studied Accounting and Finance in Exeter in the UK.As a UK resident at the time I was allowed to apply for the EVS offered by the British Red Cross. I have lived in Germany once before when I did my year abroad in South Germany. I had never visited East Germany before so I was thrilled to come across this opportunity.  Reasons for my application include the wish to improve my German language skills and my desire to work with children.

As a volunteer in Halle I work at the Kita August Hermann Francke. I am assisting two educators (also my mentors) in a group with 24 children who will be going to primary school in summer 2016. I have been very lucky to have colleagues who have been very supportive since day one. My project involves teaching the children about Cyprus in a fun and creative way. My goal is to get them accustomed with the Greek language and Cypriot culture. What I have been doing this year can be found in the following blog entries.
